Possibly the easiest way to save money on your heating bill is to simply lower the temperature on your thermostat. By resetting your programmable thermostat from 72 degrees to 65 for eight hours a day, you can cut your heating bill by up to 10 percent. Another suggested money- and energy-saving practice is to replace your furnace and air-conditioning filters regularly. Replacing the filter on schedule can save money by reducing the amount of electricity needed to run a blower motor. Waren 2008 noch 62 500 Anlagen verkauft worden, fanden 2009 nach Angaben des Bundesverbands Wärmepumpe nur noch 54 800 Systeme einen Abnehmer - ein Minus von 12,3 Prozent. Für Verbraucherschützer ist das keine Überraschung. Denn die Pumpen verbrauchen in der Praxis häufig weit mehr Strom als prognostiziert.

"Wir erhalten immer mehr Beschwerden über unzureichend arbeitende Wärmepumpen", berichtet Corinna Merzyn, Geschäftsführerin des Verbands Privater Bauherren (VPB). "Die Anfragen von Grundeigentümern zu diesem Heizsystem mehren sich", bestätigt Michael Hell, Energieberater der Verbraucherzentrale Hamburg. Die Ursache sieht Nicola Beck, Leiterin des Energiebauzentrums (EBZ), dem Beratungsdienstleister der Hamburger Stadtverwaltung in Energiesparfragen, auch in vollmundigen, jedoch unerfüllbaren Versprechungen von Planern: "Für viele Häuser sind die Anlagen nicht geeignet."
